Synopsis
After screenings at Annecy and Cannes, the provocative masterpiece arrived. In an era of ecological anxiety, it poses sharp questions about those resisting environmental destruction, social injustice, and the cost of hope. The conflicted protagonist Hélène is an activist fleeing a failed armed revolution. Her escape leads to an encounter with Manon, the leader of the revolutionary group and a haunting figure within her psyche. The film journeys through a hallucinatory forest, exploring memories of failure and struggles with guilt. Though the dreamlike narrative may feel scattered, Dufour-Laperrière’s 2D animation uses dynamic camera work, ethereal colors, and experimental sound to convey the pain of activism vividly. This eco-fable is politically charged, visually daring, and insists politics is always personal. (KIM Somi)
