The 26th Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF2024) has announced that Ann Marie Fleming, the director of Window Horses, will serve as the Jury President this year.
Ann Marie Fleming is a renowned Canadian writer, director, and animator, as well as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She often explores themes of Asian identity, family, women, and minorities in her work, particularly for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Fleming's work has received numerous accolades, including the Best Canadian Short Film awards at the Toronto International Film Festival for New Shoes (1990) and Blue Skies (2002). Her animated documentary The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam was adapted into a graphic novel, earning a spot on the American Library Association’s ‘Top 10 List.’
Notably, her feature animation Window Horses, Rosie voiced by Sandra Oh Korean-Canadian actor, won the Jury Prize at BIAF2016, Best Animated Feature at Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film.
In 2024, Fleming reunited with Sandra Oh for a new project, Can I Get a Witness?, a hybrid live-action/animation feature that will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
