184 BIAF Classics: Miyazaki & Oshii Masterpieces 2025-08-28 16:03
The 27th Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF2025, October 24–28) will present a special program, Doki Doki Anime, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.

Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind / Castle in the Sky / Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg
As part of the BIAF Classics section on October 26, three masterpieces from the golden age of Japanese animation will be screened: Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Castle in the Sky (1986), and Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg (1985, newly remastered for Cannes Classics 2025).
The program also explores the pivotal role of Animage magazine and editor Toshio Suzuki in shaping this era—serializing Nausicaä, supporting Oshii’s experimental Angel’s Egg, and paving the way for Studio Ghibli’s first feature, Castle in the Sky. Together, these landmark works embody the unique blend of artistry and popular appeal that defined a generation of Japanese animation.
