Exhibition

Nine different exhibitions will be held at four locations: Korea Manhwa Museum, Arisol Gallery, Bucheon City Hall Station; and Bucheon City Hall, Fantastic Cube. Each venue will show the history of the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF), now in its 20th year, and showcase artwork ranging from the Academy Awards and world-renowned animation directors to college professors and students with a newly developed interest in the animation genre.

Re-born BIAF
This is a chance to celebrate and experience the 20-year history of BIAF, which started on April 10, 1999. It shows how the festival began and how it has evolved into what it is today. The festival started as the Puchon International Student Animation Festival, and in 2015 expanded into a feature film festival in its current form as the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF). It is the first Korean film festival accredited by the committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars).

Ani-Master Exhibition
The Ani-Master Exhibition explores the production process of the animated feature Extraordinary Tales (2015) by Director Raúl García, a film based on the original works of Edgar Allan Poe. ‘Flip Book: The Revolutionary Animations of the 21st Century’ looks at the creative processes of globally recognized animation auteurs, including Anca Damian, Arai Fuyu, Sawako Kabuki and Bastien Dubois.

Extraordinary Tales (2015) by Raul GARCIA

Raul Garcia’s first feature animation, Extraordinary Tales (2015), will be showcased alongside the original stories by Edgar Allan Poe. The director has worked as a character animator on modern classic films by Disney such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King and Pocahontas.

Flip Book: Revolution of 21st century animation

A ‘moving picture’ depicts movement, as distinguished from a ‘drawing,’ which is the picture itself. The harmonious mixture of drawings and moving pictures makes an animation. The exhibition shows the process of how animation films are made by auteur directors such as Anca Damian, Arai Fuyu, Sawako Kabuki and Bastien Dubois.
‘Flip Book: The Revolutionary Animations of the 21st Century’ planned and organized by Ilmin Museum of Art, supported by the Arts Council of Korea, the French Institute in Seoul, the Japan Foundation, Seoul, Hyundai Sungwoo Holdings Co. Ltd.,. This exhibition is a reconstruction of some of them for the Bucheon International Animation Festival.

Ani-Fair Exhibition
Explore the direction and the future of the animation industry in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. There are four exhibition halls: College Hall, Company Hall, Youth Hall and the VR Experience Zone.

College Hall

See the blueprint expansion plan for the animation industry and how animation should move forward as a subject of study. Each participating college showcases their future educational plans and their specialties, suggesting what animation can do to extend its role in the wider culture industry.

Company Hall

This hall promotes the works and technologies of animation content companies and provides job counseling to create more jobs in the market.

VR Experience Zone

Utilizing virtual reality content representative of the 4th Industrial Revolution, visitors are offered a range of hands-on experiences. This zone adds fun and energy to the festival.

Ani-Special Exhibition
Here you can encounter combinations of animation and other art forms by Korean and global artists.

International Animator & Cartoonist Invitation Exhibition

Check out works by educators, directors and independent artists from the industries of manhwa, animation, illustration and more. This exhibition features different types of fusion arts in the form of paintings, sculptures, video arts and fine art.

Showcasing award-winning works from the Dream-ium Art Exhibition, the 17th BIAF National Student Manhwa Animation Competition and the 18th BIAF National Student Manhwa Animation Competition Meet the future leaders of the animation industry.

Dream-ium Art Exhibition

This is an exhibition of the STEAM Education program, a collaboration between the Bucheon International Animation Festival and the Gyeonggi-do Office of Education that combines literature and art to bring cultural social benefits to young students in Gyeonggi-do Province through animation.
